Then, I Would Have Finally Had My Daughter
When Rosie was in the hospital, she needed two blood transfusions to stop the blood from filling up in her lungs, from the rat poison she ingested. The animal hospital had plenty of blood, that was not an issue. But, if the doggie blood bank was low, we learned later, that humans can donate their own blood, and a portion of human protein can be donated to the dog. So, if she had needed blood, I know of four boys, and a mom and dad who would have gladly rolled their sleeves. And if we had, Rosie would definitely be our “blood relative,” and I would finally have the daughter…

Rosie Went Straight To Her Room
At midnight, the house will still noisy and chaotic with the college boy home for the holidays, and I was already too late getting to bed. Rosie looked content, asleep, but I decided to let her out one more time, assuming that the boys who were still up, would let her back in the house when they went to bed — or when she started to bark, the universal signal, for “open the door.” Except, that’s not what happened. The next thing I knew, Rose was barking; she was outside. Groggy, I looked at the clock. 4:15 am. So, she was never let back in. There wasn’t a soul awake in…

So, This Year, The Dog Wore A Life Jacket
In last summer’s 4th of July Parade, Rosie jumped shipped, and caused us all to panic. So, this year, we kept her on the shore… While this dog sailed by. Safe, in his life jacket.

What Rosie Misses
The fall out from my injury is still reverberating through the household. But no one has suffered more than Rosie. Especially the short 2-3 mile running bursts we would take together four times a week. One of the bright spots, recently, was that the stem cell shot actually did allow my MCL to regenerate — without the need for surgery. So, while I will still need surgery on the ACL, that shot, in the long run, was worth it. Part of the healing process of the stem cell shot involved “locking” my leg in one position for several weeks. Obviously, atrophy set in while the MCL regenerated. Now, I am in the…

There’s Probably a Rosie Meme Somewhere
On what was a long, exhaustive day of college student/dorm movement, I saw more student belongings and dutiful parents shoving the trunks of cars full of cargo, and embraces between parents and children to last me for a lifetime. And all I could do was sit in my spot in the passenger seat and come to terms with the fact that I have three more sons ahead of me. Watching other people move, with no place to run and hide, was more drama than I could bear. Of course, it wouldn’t have been so bad if I could’ve actually been busy and helped move the boxes, the clothes, the half-opened…

Rosie’s Social Life
Every few days or so, I get a text on my phone that simply states a place and a time. This is Rosie’s “Play Group.” My son and I stumbled upon it quite accidentally… we were driving home from a full day of shopping for a suit for him to wear to the dance when we saw a pack of dogs jumping around in the field by our house. Even though my feet ached from the hours of pounding the hard mall floor, I was instantly motivated to see our own dog frolicking out there. And, as I packed the car with Rosie, I noticed my son, taking over the driver’s…

So, We Took Rosie On a Walk
With so little happening in the lake – it’s been too cold to swim, we took, Rosie on a little excursion. I knew there were horses around the bend, up the hill, and maybe we could see them. So, we walked, and talked and decided it was all very beautiful. When we saw the horses, we stopped by the fence to watch them, a bit mesmorized by their giant size, and their majesty. The horses, slowly, while eating the clover in front of them, started moving toward us…. steadily they kept coming at us, until we realized they were there to meet us. They were actually coming down the hill to…

UPDATE: Yes, Rosie is Fine
We had planned for this year’s boat parade, that Rosie could join, if we towed the canoe behind us. Everyone was game. Except Rosie, who jumped ship before she had a chance to even make one lap around the lake and make her appearance. So, we continued without her, while Rosie waited on the dock.

The Early Flush of Spring Break
Rosie did her usual wiggle-and-greet when he walked through the door — until she finally realized it was “HIM” and she immediately threw all her inhibitions aside and began to break all the rules and started to jump on him, while making that whining sound of excitement that she could barely contain. Her paws wrapped around his leg, hugging him, not letting go, just like a real human being. There was a roast, fresh from the oven – but there was no time to make desert – because I, of course, waited until the very last minute to freshen up his room with fresh sheets. And, yes, I had been using his…
