So, there was this elephant in the room… and nobody said a word about it

Those windows in the kitchen face directly west, and we take a beating in the summer and fall months here. The sun literally shredded those gorgeous burlap curtains, I learned this summer, when we hired our own sons to wash the windows.

I couldn’t put them back up. Since then, I’ve been in a quandary trying to figure out how and what to replace them with. There are 6 windows, each one 45 inches wide, and 72 inches tall. It’s quite an investment to cover these babies.

Until I came upon my ultimate problem solver, and discovered really, a  simple solution. A duvet cover measures 86″ by 86″… so, I could literally cover four windows with one duvet cover. (More on how I plan to do this, once I choose the covers… but basically, I want to create a “blind” with grommets, so there will be no gathering on the sides…)

I’ve always wanted red and white cafe curtains… but lately, I’ve been really bold about color, and I’ve decided I wanted gold…

So, the gray, gold and red, together, which is in my mind, is really what that little boy of man captured on the kitchen chalkboard, with his batman artwork:

and a bit more searching… and now I’ve come upon some absolutely stunning duvet covers at Ikea and Urban Outfitters. The color combinations are so bright and unexpected, and they will pull in the red accents I already have in the kitchen, and the dark gray paint.

This one will not be what I get— but if I did, can you imagine the “pop” of having a big old elephant in the room?! I truly would love this one…

It’s full of vibrant color… the grays, the golds, the reds… everything in one place! And look at that happy elephant! Yep, on second thought, I think I have to get this one! 

Here’s the second choice: Stripes

On a more serious note… this one would tie the gray of the kitchen with the pops of red…understanded, and yet so practical. (Yet it has the lowest thread count at 149.) 

Here’s the third choice. Floral and stripes.

This one is just so pretty…and I love how I could really create an electic vintage feel with this one, as some windows will have stripes, and the others will be floral… quite interesting. 

We will call this third choice “pretty.”
