Make An Anti-Oxidant, Anti-Aging Face Cream For Pennies

Green tea leaves contain Polyphenols, which Dr. Stephen Hsu, a cell biologist in the Medical College of Georgia Department of Oral Biology, has found, reactivates dying skin cells and assists with the adverse effects of UV radiation exposure.

This is why so many cosmetic companies are adding green tea to their skin repair products.

For quite a high price tag.

First, let’s start with a base of coconut oil. You could use olive oil, but a 2013 study in the Journal of International Dermatology found that virgin coconut oil improved skin barrier function in patients with atopic dermatitis. There are also currently studies being conducted about the anti-aging benefits of coconut oil on skin.

You’ll also need some green tea, a a sliver of beeswax. The beeswax is optional, as you’ll be keeping your moisturizer in the fridge. But if you’d like the moisturizer to have a stiffer consistency, the beeswax is a must.

Green tea anti-oxidant, anti-aging skin moisturizer:

  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of green tea leaves
  • 1 teaspoon beeswax

Put your coconut oil in a glass, heat proof jar, like a canning jar. Add loose green tea leaves (rip open the tea bag), and beeswax if using. Loosely cover the jar with the lid. Place it in a pan filled halfway with water, and place it on the stove to simmer. Once the water comes to a boil, let the coconut oil simmer for at least an hour — until the oil starts to turn that lovely shade of green.

Let the oil cool, and strain out the tea leaves. ( Save them for a facial scrub.)

Pour your nice green mixture into a jar. It’s best and safest to keep your mixture in the fridge — as it does not have the preservatives that department store moisturizers carry.  The moisturizer will be “hard” when it’s cold. So, one solution is to keep a tiny amount of the jar at room temperature for you to use daily.

  1. This was just added to my must try list and since I have the necessary ingredients just might go give it a try now! I LOVE coconut oil for moisturizing, oil pulling, cooking & even add it to my morning coffee! I even made a facial scrub using coffee grounds & coconut oil.
