Be Still, Advent Day 16: The Glory Wrapped in Ordinary
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God, 1 Corinthians 10:31
Our days are wrapped in anticipation, the kind that jingles faintly under the hum of everyday life. Are your lights strung? My tree sits in all its glory with lights twinkling, garland wrapped — but the box of ornaments is still full — still missing on the tree. The cookies are not baked — I’m still decluttering. I clearly am not enough enough.
Does It Even Matter?”
Makes you pause and wonder—Does it even matter? Who will care? But Advent whispers louder, gentler: It’s not about making enough. It’s about finding Him in the midst of it.
It’s about knowing that even in the unfinished, even in the undone, every moment can still hold glory. Even the simplest things—a cup of tea steeped for a friend, placing an ornament on the tree, a breath offered in gratitude—are not small. They’re sacred.
Because this is what Advent truly teaches: Glory doesn’t need perfection to arrive. He came to a manger, to a weary world, to us. The lights that twinkle and the garland wrapped? They’re beautiful, but not because they’re enough. They’re beautiful because they remind us to see—to see Him in the ordinary.
Every act, no matter how mundane, is an invitation to live consciously, by finding Him in the doing.
It’s not about what you finish.
It’s about what you carry in your heart.
It’s about realizing that each moment, each little effort, is the divine expressing itself through you.
Eating, drinking, decluttering—yes, even that—they’re opportunities to affirm your unity with the Creator. Every twinkling light, every wrapped gift, every unbaked cookie is a whisper: He is here.
So, whether you find yourself in grand endeavors or ordinary routines, approach all things with love, with intention, and with the awareness that you are a vessel for His work.
“Whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for the glory of God.” Because His glory doesn’t wait for perfect ornaments on perfect trees. It meets you right here, in the mess, in the waiting, in the unfinished glory of Advent.

Know that He sees you as perfect, and let His image of you be reflected in all you do. Glorify God by manifesting the richness, beauty, and abundance of life that flows from him.
This is the season of God’s grace made manifest. And grace? Grace always shows up—even when the cookies don’t.
Every ribbon tied, every mug of hot cocoa poured, every tiny candle lit—it’s worship when your heart says yes. Yes to His coming. Yes to His presence right here in the midst of undone lists and unbaked pies.
Isn’t this the story of Christmas? Glory coming wrapped in the humblest of things—a stable, a manger, a baby. Love doesn’t need fanfare. It just needs room.
So, whether you’re stirring fudge on the stove or tucking a child in bed, whether you’re whispering prayers by the tree or running out for one last roll of wrapping paper, do it all for His glory. Because every small thing, when done with love, shines like the Bethlehem star.
This is the season of waiting, of preparing. Not just the meals or the gifts but the heart. The season to look up at those twinkling lights and remember: He came for the ordinary. He came for this. For us.
So, today, as the Advent candles flicker – or not, let’s make room in the every day for His glory to break through. Because He’s already here, in every kind word, every shared laugh, every quiet moment.
“And whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for the glory of God.”
Advent is the invitation to find Him again, in the small things, the quiet things, the holy, beautiful ordinary.
