A Retirement Devotional to Help Your Flourish

The retirement party is lovely. The card gets signed. Someone brings a cake. You smile, and you mean it, and then you drive home and wake up the next morning with nowhere to be and a calendar so empty it almost taunts you.

That Tuesday is where this book begins.

Not because retirement is hard — though sometimes it is — but because the woman standing in that wide-open space deserves more than a checklist of hobbies and a reminder to stay hydrated. She deserves to know who she actually is when the title gets handed back.

Losing a career is a kind of identity surgery. Even when you chose it. Even when you were ready. The work told you who you were for thirty years, and now it doesn’t, and something underneath all that productivity is waiting to be found.

Flourish was written for that something.

It is a 52-week devotional — one slow and honest walk through the question God has been asking long before the retirement party: Who did I make you to be when the job was never part of the answer?

The book moves through four phases. Rooted — finding out who you are without the title. Renewed — learning to receive what God places at your feet every single morning without striving for it. Strengthened — getting specific about courage, boundaries, and what it means to stop carrying what was never yours to carry. Fruitful — discovering that your most significant work may still be ahead of you.

Every week has a scripture, a real woman’s words, a devotional reading, something to actually do, and a closing prayer. No performance required. No spiritual résumé needed. Just you and God and fifty-two weeks of showing up.

Proverbs 4:18 says the path of the righteous is like the first light of dawn — shining brighter and brighter until full day. Not fading toward dark. Brightening toward noon.

That is what this year is. Full light, finally arriving.
