Be Still, Advent Day 21: Is Your Search History Showing?

A few years ago, I discovered this little genius button on Amazon: archive order. Oh, thank you, sneaky genius! This little button lets you hide all those Christmas gift orders so the curious eyes of your family won’t spoil the surprise. But here’s the catch—your search history tells another story.

There it is, plain as day. You might have archived the gifts, but every ad on every website is now screaming the exact things you were searching for: that cozy weighted blanket, the Batman LEGO set, the David-Yurman look-alike earrings. The Internet knows. I hope no one is looking.

What if our hearts worked like this? What if no matter how much we tried to archive our “orders,” our search history is still plain to see? Can people tell I’m a Christian — or does my over-worry give the opposite signal?

What Does Your Face Say About Your Search History?

We can sit in church pews, Bible in hand, and archive all the right “Christian” activities. But when we step out into the world, does the peace of Christ linger on our faces, or are we wearing the worry we’ve been searching for instead?

The Apostle Paul said:

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2).

If we spent less time searching for answers to life’s stress and more time soaking in His Word, wouldn’t our faces show it? A heart full of peace leaks out in ways you can’t fake—like ads following you across the Internet, only better.

The Fruits of Your Search

The world is already watching. They see our reactions to the barista who gets the order wrong, to the traffic that makes us late, to the family member who tests our patience for the 56th time this year.

Jesus said:

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35).

Love shows up in your tone, in your patience, in the way you carry peace when the world around you is chaos. Just like the cookies in your browser, your actions leave a trail. Are the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—showing up in the ads of your life? (Galatians 5:22-23).

Archiving Worry and Searching for Christ

The search history of our hearts can’t be hidden. If we’re constantly clicking on worry, pride, or fear, it will show. But if we’re digging into Scripture, if we’re searching for the face of God in our moments of stillness, people will notice that, too.

“Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame” (Psalm 34:5).

When we search for Christ, His light reflects in our countenance. You can’t hide it any more than you can hide your Amazon wish list from the algorithms.

A Life That Advertises Jesus

So, this Advent, let’s live like our search history matters. Let’s spend more time seeking Him than stressing about the perfect gift or the perfect meal. Because here’s the real gift: when you search for Him with all your heart, you’ll find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).

And when you find Him, you’ll carry Him. In your words, your actions, and yes—even on your face.

This Christmas, let’s make sure that what the world sees in our ads—our lives—is unmistakably Jesus. The peace we carry will speak louder than any worry we’ve archived.
