I’m Out of Food

The text came in around 11 pm on a Thursday night. “I’m running out of Food.” Isn’t that every mother’s weakness? Since the second they were born, a cry in the night? Still in grocery stores, a hunger cry from a child I don’t even know makes me wince.

i was thinking through what exactly he needed, when I found myself texting back, ” that’s because it’s time to come home for a visit.”

And he texted back, “I’m done at 11 tomorrow.”

So, that’s how he ended up here, for the weekend. And it also turned out, many of his friends decided to come home too…
